Information
Skyward Access
Westerly Public Schools has switched to a new student management system called Skyward. You may have been accustomed to checking your student's information through our old system MMS. We are currently in the process of ensuring that all of our student information in the new system is correct. While this is happening, we are keeping the parent/guardian access turned off. However, students will be given an access code for their information by September 9. If you would like to access Skyward and see this new system, you can ask your child for his/her access information in order to login to the system.

Welcome Dr. Garceau

Dr. Mark Garceau.jpg

Greetings,

At their regular meeting of June 28th, the Westerly School Committee honored me by appointing me as Superintendent of Schools effective July 1st.

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join an outstanding team of educators and an engaged community of learners and to continue the work of making the Westerly Public Schools the premier school district in the region; our students, their families, our constituents, the Town’s residents, deserve nothing less.

In the coming weeks and months I will be doing a great deal of listening and learning, assessing our strengths and working to identify and planning for our areas of need. While there are so many great things in place and so much to celebrate and to be grateful for, there are also (and there always will be) things that we can do better; parts of our game (to use a sports analogy) that we can improve upon.
This, to me, is what a growth mindset is all about; recognizing that through thoughtful, focused and strategic hard work, we can and will continue to grow, improve and to build our capacity for ensuring college and career readiness for ALL Westerly students.

We will do this through attending to the ongoing work of strengthening core instruction while ensuring access to rigorous coursework delivered by the highest quality teachers and leaders, by being as efficient with the use of all available resources (including staffing, finance and time) as possible, and by always considering every decision made in terms of how it will improve outcomes for our most important resource of all, our students.

I would like to thank the many members of the WPS community who have reached out to welcome me to Westerly for their kind words of encouragement and support.

In particular, I want to recognize and thank Dr. Seitsinger for his years of service to the children of Westerly and to express my gratitude for his ongoing support of me and the district during this period of transition. It was Marian Wright Edleman who said that, “Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and the world better than you found it”. I believe that this quote speaks to Roy’s work here in Westerly and I hope to live up to this ideal, and the awesome responsibility that it brings, myself in the years ahead.

Respectfully,

Mark Garceau, Ed.D.
